Nothing Ever Feels the Same
Verse 1
Yeah I can’t bring myself to delete
All these pictures of you and me
‘Cause erasing the memories
Means that we were never meant to be
Verse 2
But my screen it just reminds me
Of memories and times we spent
As you’re slowly fading away
And the image of you’s
Now just blurring into
Pieces I can’t remember today
Pre-chorus
Yeah a part of me is hoping
That your heart is still open
And all of this is all but a dream
(A dream)
And it hurts me just to know that
That I can never go back
To back when it was you and me
Chorus
Now here’s this empty space from where you left me
And I fill the void with tears and pain
Yeah I’ve tried to move on ever since you’ve been gone
But nothing ever feels the same
Verse 3
And I can’t bring myself to forget
Every little thing that you said to me
All the I love you’s and the how you doin’s
Cause now I got nobody to text
Verse 4
And I miss the days when you and I would be together side by side
Cause now all that we had subsiding
And I’m holding onto everything and every single memory
But I wonder ‘f you’d remember me at all
Prechorus
Cause I’m hoping maybe someday
That it will all be okay
We’d work things out and you’d be here with me with me
And nothing could come between us
And this part in between us
Wasn’t us growing apart but growing up
Chorus
Now here’s this empty space from where you left me
And I fill the void with tears and pain
Yeah I’ve tried to move on ever since you’ve been gone
But nothing ever feels the same
Bridge
So if this is truly the end of you and I
I hope we both can find
Some peace and relief from the pain of saying bye
‘Cause now I have nothing inside
Chorus
Now here’s this empty space from where you left me
And I fill the void with tears and pain
Yeah I’ve tried to move on ever since you’ve been gone
But nothing ever feels the same
Weekly Recording Process of Nothing Ever Feels The Same
1/5
I just finished More Than Just A Friend and have re-opened the song project for Nothing Ever Feels The Same. I already have a lot of pre-existing tracks from my first attempt at recording this song, but many of them are rough so I’m going to rerecord them. I think the bass and drum tracks are fine, but I definitely want to redo the vocals because they sound super dull. I think I’ll also change the guitar parts since they sound very sharp and robotic. So far, I’ve only gone through and deleted unnecessary tracks and experimented with some sounds, but I think I’ll make good progress once I get started on re-recording tracks.

While I was working on the project I found a major error. I had to change they key of the song in order for the pitch correction to be in the right key, but when I did, all tracks were pitched up and became distorted. I somehow needed to change they key of the project without it affecting any of the tracks in the project. In the other songs I’ve recorded, I set the key of the song when creating the project file so I never had this issue. However, when I made the project file for Nothing Ever Feels The Same last year, I forgot to change the key. As a result, it was set to the default key of C instead of Bb major. It took me a while to fix, but luckily I was able to after watching some videos. I discovered that there was a follow key and tempo button that made tracks follow the key of the project when I changed it. It turned out that I just had to click off this button, and I was able to change the key of the project once I did. Besides that, I was also succesful in re-recording the guitar parts for the verses. Looking at the project it doesn’t seem like I made too much progress on the song this week. However, being able to change the key of the song was major for the song, so it feels like I did. I’m excited to see how the rest of the song goes.

I had a really busy week at school but I was able to re-recorded the prechorus, chorus, and bridge guitar parts this week. They were all relatively easy to record and I got them all done in one night. It took me a bit more time to record the vocals. I’ve recorded both the first and second verses, but I’m not entirely satisfied with how the second verse turned out. I might re-record it later to get it cleaner. I’m gonna have to get a lot of work done next week to finish Nothing Ever Feels The Same but I think I will be able to finish the recording. I mostly just need to finish recording the main vocal track, add some background vocals, and work on the mixing and editing. I can’t wait to finish this song next week.
1/19-1/26
It was difficult but I finally finished Nothing Ever Feels The Same. I had finals and so many assesments this week, but I was very productive and actually got the majority of the main vocal track completed in one work block at school. Tracking vocals is usually the part of the recording process that takes me the most time to do, but in that one block I was able to record the second verse, third verse, fourth verse, and both prechoruses. I was able to record the chorus and bridge later on and I also decided to add some background vocals and a little background rap part to this song too. The backgrounds are a nice touch to add some depth to the song and I think they sound great. I then mixed the song, automated the volume, and panned certain tracks to make the mix cleaner. I’m really happy with how Nothing Ever Feels The Same turned out, and I’m glad I was able to finally get my favorite original song recorded.
Story of Nothing Ever Feels The Same
Of all the songs I’ve written, Nothing Ever Feels The Same is my favorite. The song is just really fun to perform and I think it has some of the best lyrics that I have written. The lyrics are about the struggles of letting go of someone, and although I’ve never been in a relationship before, I can deeply resonate with the lyrics. I actually wrote Nothing Ever Feels The Same back in January of 2024 after my friend’s relationship with his girlfriend had just ended. She had broken up with him for varying reasons and he struggled greatly with moving on from her. He would call me after school telling me how he couldn’t bring himself to delete all the photos he had taken with his ex-girlfriend. Through his struggles, I did my best to comfort and listen to him, however, I too had started to feel down. Even though it wasn’t my relationship, I could still sympathize with my friend and I felt that I needed to get some of the negative emotions I had been feeling off my chest. So I picked up my guitar and, thinking of my friend, decided to write a song about everything he was going through. I thought that it was best to write the song from his perspective of the relationship, and I used what he had told me about his struggles to write the song. Interestingly enough, the first lyrics I wrote for Nothing Ever Feels The Same were: “I can’t bring myself to delete / all these pictures of you and me / ‘cause erasing the memories / means that we were never meant to be.” I wrote those lyrics inspired by my friend, who couldn’t bring himself to delete his photos and move on from his relationship. To this day, I’m still not sure if my friend knows the song is about him, but I hope that if he does listen to it someday, he’ll enjoy it.
