Low Battery
Early Recordings of Low Battery
Low Battery
Verse 1
I’ve lost all my energy
You left and took it all from me
No charger you pulled out the plug
No fixing the damage that’s been done
Now I’m left on low battery
Pre-chorus 1
Don’t wanna die so I turn it on
Act like alls fine but its a facade
Yellow and bright
Seems like nothings wrong
Till I’m dead and gone
Chorus
Ohhh why’d you got to do this all
Playing your games,
Don’t you know that they waste all my battery
Guess you were all just bad for me
Ohhh you’ve used me for so long
I’m losing all my life
Oh you drained all my energy
Now I’m left on low battery
Verse 2
You took everything from me
Hate that I fell so easily
Gave up my heart too willingly oh
For you who saw nothing in me
Pre-chorus 2
Guess I was another option
But you wouldn’t update me
Chasing the better models
And once I’m worthless, replace me
Oh you didn’t think twice
Before discarding, you hate me
Everything was a lie
You never wanted to save me
Chorus
Ohhh why’d you got to do this all
Playing your games,
Don’t you know that they waste all my battery
Guess you were all just bad for me
Ohhh you’ve used me for so long
You sucked me dry
Oh you drained out every ounce of life from me
Now I’m left on low battery
Low battery, low battery
Now I’m left on low battery
Low battery, low battery
Yeah oh you killed my battery
Weekly Recording Process of Low Battery
7/7
This morning, I took my AKAI Mini Midi Keyboard and just screwed around with some chord progressions. I found the key of G to be a nice start and I recorded a progression of Em, C, G, Bm with a synth sound. I also used a beat machine to create a drum track which fits the synth sound well. Right now I only have a few lyrics and a melody. I’m thinking of calling this song “Wasted Love” but I’ll see where the song takes the lyrics from here.
7/14-8/3
In the past few weeks I’ve finished writing the lyrics for the song. I’ve completely rewritten all previous lyrics that I had and I think I’m going to call this song “Low Battery.” I have also begun the recording process and have made solid progress. Since this song is completely digital so far, “Low Battery” has been extremely easy to edit. I have a solid guide track for the vocals, however, there are some spots where I want to go back and re-record. The time quantization tool has been perfect for keeping everything in time in this song. I like the direction where this song is headed.
8/4-8/24
I have finished recording all the vocals and instrumental tracks for “Low Battery.” I added some background vocals which give the song some nice depth and I also went back to re-record the areas on the vocal track that I wanted to fix. I changed the lyrics in the chorus from “You sucked me dry” to “I’m losing all my life” so that it sounds less inappropriate. I still need to automate some things with the instrumental tracks, edit the EQ, and finalize the mix, but the song is starting to sound complete.
8/25-9/7
I have finished the recording of “Low Battery.” I added some pitch correction and reverb to the vocal tracks and they sound awesome now. I was able to fix some clipping with automation and got rid of some synth sounds that I found unnecessary to the song. I also added a little background rap to add some extra build-up to the end of the song. I am super happy with how the whole song turned out and I can’t wait to record some more music.
Story of “Low Battery”
“Low Battery” is the first song that I have finished recording and I am super happy with how the whole song turned out. I was inspired to create an all digital song after hearing “Hope To See You Again” by Antent. I wanted to capture the same somber feeling expressed in “Hope To See You Again,”but I also wanted to add lyrics to the song instead of leaving it purely instrumental. Because I came up with the instrumental tracks and chords first, I was left with the task of writing lyrics second which I had never done previously. I usually approach songs by writing some lyrics first and then adding some chords later, so I was more unsure of what the lyrics should be about. I wanted to write a sad song and initially planned on calling the song “Wasted Love” based off the line I was repeating that went “Look at all of this wasted love.” However, while searching for new songs on Apple Music, I came across an album cover that had a low battery on it and was inspired. I don’t remember what song had the low battery on the cover, but it sparked the idea of what I should write about. I began writing lyrics, and I used my experiences of being led on in a relationship to craft the lyrics. Combining the digital theme of the song and my personal experiences led to some of my favorite lyrics of the song which were “Guess I was another option but you wouldn’t update me/Chasing the better models and once I’m worthless replace me/Oh you didn’t think twice before discarding you hate me/Everything was a lie you never wanted to save me.”
